Several years ago, I was invited to teach in a conference in Mukono. I was excited about the opportunity, so I worked hard. I took so much time studying and preparing a colorful power point presentation. I was sure it was going to be a clear presentation, and my listeners would hear and see the lessons. I just did not take time to pray at all.
I arrived in the conference room, opened my laptop to connect to the projector. The laptop could not power up. I did everything I knew to do, and I could not get it going. I had no handwritten notes. This is when I remembered to pray. I was desperate, I begged the Lord to help me remember the outline. I did the presentation, but I felt it was half baked.
As I reflected on my preparation time, I felt the Lord reminding me, “It is not by might, it is not by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord”.
On this ordination day, I want to remind you my brothers and sisters, that beyond skill and study, real preparation includes looking to him and depending on him, so we can serve in the power of the Holy Spirit.
